Sharpening My Oyster Knife!

Your girl learned how to shuck an oyster over the 4th of July holiday. Shoutout to @yellowppl at Whole Foods for teaching me and Kamau for keeping the party going!

And I can’t talk about oysters without bringing up one of my favorite poems - “what I mean when I say I’m sharpening my oyster knife” by Eve Ewing. It’s a call back to a line from Zora Neale Hurston.

Oysters in Atlanta

I have a couple of spots I like but two top recommendations:

  1. The Optimist on Howell Mill Rd - raw, grilled (not on menu, just ask), and fried are all good choices here. You can’t go wrong. Try the homemade hot sauce & green goddess dressing for fried oysters 🦪

  2. Marcel’s - there’s a hot seafood dish with broiled oysters along with lobster and shrimp. Have it all! It’s so delicious!!
